Carole Herrick - Ambitious Failure: Chain Bridge, The First Bridge Across the Potomac River

Carole L. Herrick received her Bachelor of Arts in History from the Los Angeles State College. Carole is president of the McLean Historical Society as well as a member of the Fairfax County History Commission, which she chaired between 2015 and 2017. Carole is a highly regarded speaker and has written numerous articles on this region as well as eight books. 

Since 1797, eight bridges have spanned the Potomac River near the Little Falls, linking the District of Columbia with Virginia. The presentation will take the audience through a discussion of the first six bridges built at that location, culminating with the American Civil War.
